Genre Research: The Hate You Give
The movie The Hate You Give is another very emotional and powerful movie. Like the Hidden Figures, it is about racial economy in the United States. But this time around, it is in the new day where we suffer with police brutality. The movie is about a young African American girl who is usually not apart of the crowd but tries to do something that boost up her social life such as throwing a party. At the party, she meets a boy and she finds him attractive. They talk and he offers to take her home. As they are going home, they are stopped by a police officer. Everything is great until the boy makes a joke as pulling his hairbrush out as a gun and is then shot and killed by the police officer. By then, the young girl is frightened for her life and that is where the story begins. This movie also has a lot of dramatic scenes. Such as the scene I was just explaining, even though this is based on what goes on in today's society, the scene did bring the dramatics that everyone was looking for. This scene is also the scene which makes the movie what it is. So because of that, I believe that the directors had to make sure the audience gets all the feelings and emotions that was put into this scene. That is not the only scene though, there are other scenes such as the one where the police officer isn't put in jail for the murder of the child. That made made the African American community mad and that led up to scenes where the people began to riot. These scenes were very dramatic and had everything the audience is looking for such as madness, breaking of items, streets going up in flames and angry protesters. In this movie, there were many things that I liked and enjoyed. I enjoyed the truthfulness that the characters bring. I liked how many could relate to this movie from when something bad happens then to riots to justice for all. Like the last movie, this was another one of my favorites, a great movie that is still played to this day.
