Genre Research: Horror

In the beginning of the year, for the course we were assigned to do a powerpoint about genre. The genre that my partner and I chose was the horror genre. We chose the genre because we felt as if the genre was very interesting and it was also one of the genres that people are usually very skeptical about. The horror genre also was very different from others in many ways. From the way the lighting is set up to the different sounds from the film. In the powerpoint, it gives different information about the genre such as the camera angles they use, lighting and the different sounds including in the film. Many of the slides includes different movies that was based on the genre and included the information that was used in the different films. My partner and I Ryeyauni Bush, we alternated the information on the different types of slides. The slides included pictures of what the horror genre looks like when it is being used in a film.

As stated before, the horror genre is very different from other genres you may see in movies. When using the horror genre, almost everything is different. The lighting in a horror film is usually a dark or dimmed out lighting scene. Horror also has animations in the film where things will pop out in front of you to scare you. The sound they use in a horror film is way different from what you would hear in a regular film. In a horror film, the most dramatic sound that you may hear is a scream. Screams are in most horror films that you watch because the goal of the film is to scare the audience. By adding this to the film, it indicates that the actor in the film is scared which is the main goal for the movie. Overall, a horror film is supposed to create fear, suspense, mystery and surprise. Without that type of content given to the audience, there really isn't a horror film or it is a very boring one. Though some can't handle a horror film, it is for sure one of the best ones.
